Shade Tree Advisory Board’s Tree Care Information
This website was developed in order to provide the Township’s residents with timely and practical tree care advice, and important pest alerts for invasive insects like the emerald ash borer.
Every day our trees work hard to provide us with many economic, environmental and social benefits. However, in order to receive maximum benefits, we must keep our trees healthy. The long-term health of a tree depends on properly planting a species and variety in a site where environmental conditions closely match the tree’s requirements for light, moisture, and soil pH. Also, it’s important to choose a variety whose mature size will be appropriate for the site so drastic size reduction methods like topping will not be necessary. Remember: Plant the Right Tree in the Right Place.
In order to ensure the long-term health of your trees, please follow the best management practices for planting, mulching, watering and pruning. We hope this information helps you maintain healthy trees that keep providing shade for future generations.
