Earned Income Tax

On July 11, 2011 all employers in Hanover Township received a letter regarding training dates and sites for Earned Income Tax withholding (EIT).  Training will be provided by Keystone Collections who will be replacing Berkheimer Associates for collection of EIT.

Employers are required to withhold the higher of the employee's resident earned income tax amount (rate of total resident EIT where they reside) or the employees's municipal non-resident earned income tax amount (rate of non-resident EIT where they are employed).

For example if an employee,

     Resides in Bushkill Township where the resident EIT rate is 1.450%

     Works in Hanover Township, where the non-resident rate is 1.000%

     the Employer is required to withhold 1.450% for EIT.

This is effective January 1, 2012.

EIT collected from calendar year 2011 payrolls are to be sent to employer's current collector.
